Everybody wants to be in control of the world around them. But many times, things happen that take that control out of their hands.
Today, we are talking about the psychological horror short, “Uncontrol” by Manon de Reeper. It is now streaming on the director’s YouTube channel, and you can also watch it at the end of this article. It might inspire you to get your own script ready for the current Killer Shorts Horror Short Screenplay Competition.
We also have an interview with the director for our Women In Horror series, which is available to read right now.
The Plot
A lone woman goes home to her apartment. Her OCD makes it so that she has to knock on her door in a certain way after entering, before she could move on with her day. But then she becomes unsure if she was thorough with her knock. And then she starts to hear more knocks from the door that throw her off. It will all culminate with her coming face-to-face with her inner demon.

There’s Somebody at the Door
This film is about the struggles of OCD. The irrational need to keep things exactly a certain way, no matter how useless it is. It puts one of these people in a situation where she can not maintain this balance no matter how hard she tries, and derives horror from that lack of control.
It stars Tene A Carter, who is actually the only actor in this short. She is very believable, even with no other actor to play off of. She shows a lot of fear, but that might not just be from the unexplained events. When watching, one can’t shake the feeling that it may be more from the fact that it’s disrupting her routine. And that is enough to make her tremble.
But for the audience there is a lot of tension. The viewer can tell that something unnatural is going on, even if they don’t know what it is, or why she might be in danger. And the added commentary on her disorder makes it all seem more real.
What Makes It Killer?
“Uncontrol” is a tense look at life with OCD. It takes something as simple as a knock on the door, and turns it into true horror.
