Snake D*ck Review

You ever see something that makes you think “What did I just watch?” and “I want more,” at the same time? Well, this is another one of those. Writer David Mahmoudieh, has given us the straightforward-titled short film Snake D*ck, now streaming on Alter’s YouTube channel. Watch it at the end of this post, and be sure to consider submitting your own short script for the next Killer Shorts Horror Short Screenplay Competition.

The Plot

We start out at a gas station, where two girls, Jill and Julia, just want to fill up their tank. They are catcalled by some creep, until finally, they decide they’ve had enough. Jill pulls a gun and makes him squeal like a pig. But the real punishment comes when Julia decides to join in, unleashing their secret weapon.

Beware the Snake

From the title and concept, Snake D*ck sounds like it’s in the vein of B-movies like Sharknado. A movie that would have a ridiculous title and (mostly) just rely on that one-joke concept to cover up bad filmmaking. But it’s a little more than that. It rids itself of that status by viewing this concept as a serious feminist fantasy.

The titular Snake D*ck

It establishes an eighties-style tone with the neon colors of the gas station and the synth music that plays over the credits. The lead actresses have good chemistry, and the victim is appropriately sleazy and disgusting. Also, its sense of humor is a lot more dry than you would expect from a movie with a title like that.

But most contrary to the B-movie formula, it doesn’t rely on the titular snake entirely. In fact, it is used sparingly, not showing up until near the very end. The majority of the short is just the build-up to the snake, and when it comes out it becomes more satisfying.

Conclusion

This is the kind of short that actually feels like it could be expanded into a full length movie, or maybe even a series. Following these girls and their adventures for much longer could be a lot of fun. As of now, it’s a weird and funny feminist horror short.
